৫ দশক আগেও প্রথমবারের মতো আলোচনায় এসেছিল ঢাকা থেকে রাজধানী সরিয়ে নেয়ার। এরপর পাশের দেশ ভারত দিল্লি থেকে নয়াদিল্লি, পাকিস্তান করাচি থেকে ইসলামাবাদ, মিয়ানমার ইয়াঙুন থেকে নাইপিদো, শ্রীলঙ্কা কলোম্বো থেকে জয়াবর্ধনপুরা, মালয়েশিয়া কুয়ালালামপুর থেকে পুত্রজায়ায় সরিয়ে নিয়েছে প্রশাসনিক কার্যক্রম। সম্প্রতি ইন্দোনেশিয়াও জাকার্তা থেকে সরে যাচ্ছে বর্নিওতে।
